8.30am I arrive at the office and say my hellos on the way to my desk. I unpack my belongings and set up my laptop while catching up with people close by. It’s always a welcoming setting on a Monday morning, everyone keen to swap their weekend stories.
I quickly log in to Workbook (the bible that shows us our weekly work schedule) to get a scope of what kind of jobs I’ll be handling today. I work across all kinds of brands, on all kinds of projects. Some days I’m creating brand guidelines for Westpac or setting up a huge campaign of emails for RAA. Others, I’m developing digital wireframes for landing pages. It’s pretty widespread and always interesting.
9.00am All of Creative and Business Management head to the amphitheatre, where we discuss the daily timeline of jobs – in person and virtually for those WFH. This meeting is run by our Resource Manager, aka our Work Mum, and is a time when we can highlight any potential bottlenecks, over-bookings, or put our hand up for fresh work.
Straight after it’s a quick trip to the communal kitchen for raisin toast! At CX Lavender we’re lucky enough to always have a fridge and cupboard stocked with breakfast essentials like fresh bread, yoghurt, tea, spreads, cereal and anything delicious in between.
9.30am My favourite time of day – this is usually when I’ll say hello to whichever of my colleagues’ dogs have graced the office with their presence that day.
After lots of pats and ball throwing, I head back to my desk and begin the day’s work. First up: crafting the journey for an online content hub. The early stages involve a deep dive into competitive research and analysis, where I uncover best practices and watch-outs from other sites. After printing out every worthy UI example I’ve come across, I pin them across a wall and start the rigorous job of layering them with post-it notes of my findings.
11.00am After a few hours spent on research, I set up a quick catch-up with my manager, Stan (The Man), to take him through the work. He adds his comments then we quickly workshop potential content hierarchies together on whiteboards.
12.00pm Next up: a website rebranding for another client. This involves covering, you guessed it, more whiteboards with variants of how specific pages will look and function.
Wireframing, I’d say is the best part of any job. It gives you the freedom to creatively output any and all ideas, no matter how ‘wild’. It’s pretty cool stepping back and seeing all your journey flows come together at a large scale.
12.55pm Cue the anxious wait for the agency-wide ‘Lunch is ready’ email. Occasionally the company hosts an all-agency lunch, prepared by a caterer who serves up everything from poké bowls to lasagne.
1.00pm The email lands and a stampede soon forms between desk and kitchen. Everyone slots in at a long table to eat. It’s one of the main the reasons I’ve gotten to know people I never would’ve had the chance to speak to.
1.45pm As a way to catch up outside of work (and of course, digest), we grads like to go for a walk around the block together. It’s a great way to check in on how the day is going, share insights from across the agency, or just have a laugh.
2.00pm For the rest of the afternoon, I’m back at my desk to work on a different campaign again that’s focused on adapting a series of Westpac emails and direct mail comms for their regional brands. Always a highlight putting clothes on St.George’s mascot, Little Dragon.
3.30pm Nerf gun battle with my desk mate, Charlie. Desk mate, Alice, once again caught in the cross-fire. A short and sweet break from our screens.
4.00pm Snack time! If it's been a long day, Stan or another member of the team will go on a sneaky snack run to deliver a much-needed sugar rush to everyone. This is usually paired with our go-to Spotify playlist for afternoons. Cher features heavily.
4:30pm As we near the end of the day, I like to make sure all work is sent to creative approvers and is tracking well to head over to the business managers for final review before going to client. It is.
5.00pm While I wait for final approvals and feedback, I take a quick moment to take in yet another AMAZING sunset. Working 30 levels up definitely has its perks. I mean look at that view! I action a few last things from the team, then send it back so it can officially head to client.
5.30pm With all my deadlines for the day met, it’s home time!
